What does it mean to be a Global Majority* youth worker today

For many of us, it often means being caught between what’s in the best interest of the communities we not only work with, but the communities we are part of (ends, working class, Black and POC…), and the pressures of organisational leadership, and of the charity and funding world. It sometimes feels like not only fighting against a political environment that’s hostile on so many levels for the people we work with, but also for ourselves, especially when we try to do work that can really make a difference.

Join us for two days of workshops where we will explore themes such as:

  • radical safeguarding
  • building constellations of care to support each other centring relationships, agency, dignity and justice within youth work
  • abolitionist alternatives to punitive measures, data capture and extraction
  • tactics and tools to navigate institutions
  • how to apply an embodied, trauma-informed, creative approach

We cover travel, provide breakfast, lunch and snacks. We also offer a limited number of participation bursaries to allow people who would otherwise be unable to attend due to commitments (work, childcare etc), lack of resources or other reasons that prevent you from full participation.

This course is for Global Majority* youth and community workers, over the age of 18.

If you are a white youth/community worker, you can check out our resources.

*People of the Global Majority refers to non-white people who make up the majority in the globe, people including Black, Asian, Latinx, mixed heritage and other racialised people/people of colour
